Hyperion has once again won two prestigious BBC Music Magazine Awards this year. Described in the magazine’s original review as ‘a tour de force of pianism’, Steven Osborne’s recording of Piano Sonatas Nos 6, 7 & 8 by Serge Prokofiev—the ‘War Sonatas’ trilogy—has triumphed against fierce competition in the instrumental category. Steven Isserlis’s highly personal No longer mourn for me & other works for cello by Sir John Tavener, ‘magnificently performed … a deeply moving disc’, has carried off this year’s Premiere Award. Meanwhile, on Gimell, the final instalment in The Tallis ScholarsJosquin Masses series has been named Recording of the Year. Congratulations to all.

Category shortlists and winners have now been published for this year's prestigious Gramophone Awards. The magazine's jury selected six albums in each of ten categories, then choosing one album per category as winner. We are delighted that Hyperion received six nominations, with recordings by the Takács Quartet, pianists Stephen Hough, Steven Osborne and Marc-André Hamelin, and song recitalist Gerald Finley (with Julius Drake) all featured. Nicky Spence and Julius Drake were declared the winners in the solo vocal category for their wonderful Janáček recital.

It’s a quality that shines throughout … this is the first recording by Cupertinos for Hyperion and it is a pleasure to have a Portuguese ensemble tackle its native repertory’ (Gramophone).
