Born in London, Timothy Jones started playing the horn at the age of 15, studying with Ifor James and Frank Lloyd, and won a position playing in the Munich Philharmonic at the age of 17. He has previously held positions with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, which he joined in 1984, before being appointed Principal Horn with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1986.

As a soloist, he has appeared in many of the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals, including at the Salzburg Festival and Pacific Music Festival, and in the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Hall, and the Konzerthaus Berlin. His recording of the Kenneth Fuchs Horn Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra was nominated for a Grammy award, and his playing can also be heard on numerous film soundtracks as the LSO’s Principal Horn.

As a chamber musician, Timothy Jones has collaborated with André Previn, Christoph Eschenbach, Heinz Holliger, Martha Argerich, Gil Shaham, and Yuri Bashmet, whilst his orchestral career has seen him work with most of the leading conductors of the day, including the LSO’s Principal Conductors Claudio Abbado, Michael Tilson Thomas, Sir Colin Davis, and Valery Gergiev, Music Director Sir Simon Rattle, and Chief Conductor Designate Sir Antonio Pappano.

Timothy Jones is Professor of Horn at the Royal College of Music, and Director and Co-Owner of the renowned horn company Paxman Limited.
