Marie-Noëlle Kendall (piano)

Marie-Noëlle Kendall began her studies in London with Marilyn Meyer Holzer, Albert Ferber and Joyce Rathbone. After leaving Cambridge University she studied at the Liszt Academy in Budapest with Ferenc Rados and Gyorgy Kurtag and has since established her career both at home and internationally.

Since being a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year, she has played at the major London venues including the Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Fairfield Halls, St.John’s, Smith Square and the Wigmore Hall. She has given concerts in the U.K. with the Philharmonia, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, London Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Birmingham Ensemble, Cardiff Philharmonic and with several ABC orchestras in Australia.

Marie-Noëlle has recorded recitals for Classic FM and the BBC, both for radio and television. She has also recorded a concerto for BBC2’s “Contemporary Mozart” series which has since been broadcast in the U.S., Canada and Australia. She has also recorded a chamber music programme for Colombian television.

Her connection with Australia includes a longstanding collaboration with the Australian String Quartet involving concerts and recordings both in Australia and Europe. Marie-Noëlle has also toured Australia as a soloist giving recitals, concertos and master-classes. Most recently she recorded Douglas Weiland’s Piano Quartet with members of the Melba String Quartet having already recorded Weiland’s Piano Quintet with the same players for the ABC/Polygram label.

Recent seasons took Marie-Noëlle across the globe with concerts in Scandinavia, Estonia Russia and Hungary, and an invitation to a Brahms chamber music festival in Melbourne, Australia. She has also been playing closer to home including performances of Rachmaninoff and Mozart concertos in Ely and Cambridge. The current and future seasons include chamber concerts and solo recitals for the New Europe Society and at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge.

Marie-Noëlle’s interest in working with composers was initially sparked by her studies with one of the greatest living composers, Gyorgy Kurtag, with whom she worked in Hungary, and continues with her commitment to the work of the English composer Douglas Weiland, all of whose works for piano she has performed. Marie-Noëlle had the opportunity to work with the renowned French composer Betsy Jolas in France, when she performed and recorded for television several of her chamber music works. Most recently, Marie-Noëlle has played several works by Robin Holloway, and is a dedicatee on a new composition by him, “Silvered Schubert”.
