Katherine McIndoe (soprano)

Katherine McIndoe is a soprano from Wellington, New Zealand, studying on the Opera Studies programme at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama under Yvonne Kenny. She was a Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist with New Zealand Opera, and a member of the inaugural Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation Singer Development Programme. She has been a Britten-Pears Young Artist at the Aldeburgh Festival twice, working on Britten’s song repertoire with Malcom Martineau, Mark Padmore, and Dame Ann Murray. She holds a Master of Performance with Distinction from the Guildhall, and a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from the New Zealand School of Music.

Katherine’s roles include Iolanta (Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta), the Governess (Britten’s The Turn of the Screw), Fiordiligi (Mozart’s Così fan tutte), Marcellina (Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro), Tatyana (Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), and Giulietta (Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi). She was the soloist in a UK tour with the Richard Alston Dance Company, performing Britten’s On This Island live at Snape Maltings and Sadler’s Wells as part of a newly choreographed piece called Shine On. She has performed at London’s Wigmore Hall, and live on BBC Radio 3 to celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage in the UK. Katherine is generously supported by the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation, the Guildhall School, and the Kiwi Music Scholarship.
