Irene Hoogveld (soprano)

Dutch soprano Irene Hoogveld recently completed the Guildhall Artist Masters in Performance programme, under mezzo-soprano Sarah Pring, at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (GSMD). She received her Bachelor’s degree cum laude in 2017 from ArtEZ University of the Arts (Netherlands), studying with Claudia Patacca.

Stage appearances include Jay in Janáček’s The cunning little vixen (Sir Simon Rattle, London Symphony Orchestra); Mustardseed (Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream); cover for Venus (Blow’s Venus and Adonis); and roles in Handel’s Giulio Cesare, Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, and Dvořák’s Rusalka at the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam and with Dutch Touring Opera, and British Youth Opera. On the concert platform, she has performed Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat; Faure’s Requiem; Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle; Bach’s St Matthew Passion, St John Passion, and Easter Oratorio; Handel’s Messiah; Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Dvořák’s Te Deum; and Poulenc’s Gloria.

Irene made her debut at the Barbican Hall (London) in 2018 with a selection of Russian songs, and performed twice at Wigmore Hall (London) in 2019. She has premiered, performed and recorded multiple works by Dutch contemporary composers, including Tera de Marez Oyens, Bernard van Beurden, Frans Vermeerssen, Zacharias Falkenberg, and Joep Franssens: the latter performed in collaboration with Het Orkest van het Oosten and broadcast live on national Radio 4. She has also performed works by composers such as Terence Allbright, Peter Wiegold, Thea Musgrave, and Pēteris Vasks.

Irene won First Prize at the Euregio Vokalwettbewerb; received the Audience Prize of the Chartered Surveyors’ Vocal Prize at GSMD; and was awarded the Encouragement Prize during the Prinses Christina Concours, an annual competition held in the Netherlands. Irene is proud to be supported by the VandenEnde Foundation, VSB Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, and Fundatie van Renswoude.
