Peter Hoare made his debut at Welsh National Opera where his many roles have included Herod (Salome), Malin in the world premiere of James MacMillan’s The Sacrifice, and Alwa (Lulu).

Peter appears regularly at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where roles include Mortimer in George Benjamin’s Lessons in Love and Violence (later reprised in Amsterdam, Hamburg and Lyon), Shapkin (From the House of the Dead), Fatty (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny) and Larry King (Anna Nicole). At English National Opera he has sung Orpheus Man in Birtwistle’s The Mask of Orpheus, Laca (Jenůfa), Zinovy (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) and Faust (The Damnation of Faust).

On the international stage Peter made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Hauptmann (Wozzeck) and Shapkin (From the House of the Dead), the latter most recently at La Monnaie and Opéra National de Paris. Other appearances include Alviano Salvago (Franz Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten) at Komische Opera Berlin; Sharikov (Alexander Raskatov’s A Dog’s Heart) for Dutch National Opera Amsterdam, La Scala, ENO and Opéra de Lyon; Hauptmann (Wozzeck) for Greek National Opera and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence; Captain Vere (Billy Budd) for Den Norske Opera; Witch (Hänsel und Gretel) in Amsterdam; and Creon (Julian Anderson’s Thebans) in Bonn and at ENO.

On the concert platform, Peter has appeared with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle in John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary, and Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre, a co-production with the LSO. He has appeared at the BBC Proms singing Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder with the LSO, and with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Tippett’s A Child of Our Time. Further performances include Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins and Das Berliner Requiem (Esa-Pekka Salonen, LA Philharmonic), Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette (Sir Simon Rattle, Berlin Philharmonic), Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings (Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra), and Mahler’s eighth symphony (Sir Mark Elder, BBC Philharmonic, Hallé).
