Julia Kleiter (soprano)

German soprano Julia Kleiter started her career performing in the role of Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte—a role which she performed for almost ten years in Paris, Zurich, New York and Munich, and at the festivals of Edinburgh and Salzburg, with many conductors including Jirí Kout, Claudio Abbado, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marc Minkowski, Ádám Fischer and Philippe Jordan.

Having performed in roles such as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Zdenka (Arabella), Sophie von Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier), Marzelline (Fidelio) and Ilia (Idomeneo), she quickly gained success in the more dramatic roles of the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Donna Anna and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Lisa in Franz Lehár’s Das Land des Lächelns, and Eva (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), to name a select few. This led to debuts as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, the title role in Arabella, and the Countess in Strauss’s Capriccio.

Julia performs regularly in all the leading European opera houses, in Chicago, and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, working frequently with conductors Daniel Barenboim, Ingo Metzmacher, Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi, Franz Welser-Möst, Marek Janowski, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Thomas Hengelbrock, Sylvain Cambreling, Donald Runnicles and Philippe Herreweghe, among others.

Since the outset of her career Julia has also maintained a busy schedule of concert performances and song recitals in major concert halls and festivals across Europe, Japan and the United States. Numerous DVD and CD recordings demonstrate her artistic variety.

Born in Limburg an der Lahn in Germany, Julia Kleiter studied with William Workman in Hamburg, and with Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne.
