Ludovic Morlot (conductor)

The French conductor Ludovic Morlot has been Music Director of the Seattle Symphony since 2011. During his tenure he has been applauded for innovative programming including several world premieres, introducing new concert series and a focus on community collaboration. The orchestra records for its own label, Seattle Symphony Media, and several albums have received Grammy Awards.

Ludovic was Chief Conductor of La Monnaie for three years (2012–2014). During this time he conducted several new productions including La Clemenza di Tito, Jenůfa and Pelléas et Mélisande.

In America Ludovic has a particularly close relationship with the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestras and has also conducted in Philadelphia and Cleveland. In Europe, Ludovic has worked with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Dresden Staatskapelle, Czech Philharmonic and Orchestre National de France. He has conducted the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in the closing concert of the Wien Modern Festival and has toured with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Further afield, Ludovic’s performances have taken him to Tokyo, Seoul and Sydney.

Originally trained as a violinist, Ludovic studied conducting in London at the Royal Academy of Music and then at the Royal College of Music as recipient of the Norman Del Mar Conducting Fellowship. Morlot was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in 2014 in recognition of his significant contributions to music. He is Chair of Orchestral Conducting Studies at the University of Washington School of Music in Seattle.
