A new release this month from LSO Live presents an engaging programme of Vaughan Williams, Britten & Elgar: respectively, the Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis, the Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge, and the Introduction and Allegro. Roman Simović conducts the LSO String Ensemble.
Juliette Bausor is a flautist of rare talent and has recorded for Signum Classics a programme of Flute Concertos by Mozart & Nielsen. For this her debut concerto album she is joined by the Royal Northern Sinfonia under Jaime Martín. The London Mozart Players, tenor Nicky Spence, conductor Nicholas Cleobury and a veritable host of singers (including the Oxford Bach Choir and Portsmouth Grammar School Chamber Choir) have recorded Jonathan Dove's For an unknown soldier, a new remembrance cantata and a fascinating perspective on the poetry of the First World War, both familiar and less so.
Two new albums from David Goode this month augment his organ compendiums on Signum: a third volume in the Complete Bach Organ Works series from Trinity College, Cambridge, and a second instalment of Organ music by Max Reger showcasing the organ of Bath Abbey. Finally, Thomas Hewitt Jones' Christmas Party.
