New to the label are Markus Stenz and the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, and they have recorded an explosive double-bill of Richard Strauss Don Quixote & Till Eulenspiegel, works this orchestra premiered in the 1890s. Alban Gerhardt and Lawrence Power are the soloists. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra joins Jonathan Plowright for a fifty-ninth volume in our indefatigable Romantic Piano Concerto series, Łukasz Borowicz making his Hyperion debut with these works by compatriots Władysław Żeleński and Aleksander Zarzycki.
The Brabant Ensemble and Stephen Rice see their eleventh Hyperion release this month: the Palestrina Missa Ad coenam Agni is a little-known five-voice setting which fully deserves its place at the heart of an Eastertide programme.
Re-issued this month are Susan Gritton and Eugene Asti's pioneering recital of Songs by Fanny Mendelssohn, and the Grechaninov Piano Trios recorded in 2000 by The Moscow Rachmaninov Trio.
