The autograph is dated March 1845, although it was not performed until 1905. After the optimistic vision of the first movement, a more sombre Adagio follows which itself encloses a mercurial scherzo. The syncopated opening of the Finale heralds an unusually extended movement, mostly in the tonic minor (except for a reprise of the Adagio material in the dominant) but concludes in a whirlwind of C major.

L’autographe est daté de mars 1845 mais l’œuvre ne fut pas jouée avant 1905. Passé la vision optimiste du premier mouvement, un Adagio plus sombre renferme un scherzo plein de vie. L’ouverture syncopée du final annonce un mouvement inhabituellement étiré, le plus souvent dans le mode mineur tonique (excepté une reprise du matériau de l’Adagio, dans le mode dominant), mais s’achève dans un tourbillon de do majeur.

Das handschriftliche Manuskript ist mit März 1845 datiert, obwohl es erst 1905 vorgetragen wurde. Nach der optimistischen Vision des ersten Satzes folgt ein eher düsteres Adagio mit einem sprunghaften Scherzo. Die synkopierte Eröffnung des Finale kündigt einen ungewöhnlich langen Satz an, der sich im großen und ganzen im tonischen Moll hält (abgesehen von einer Reprise des Adagio-Materials in der Dominanten), jedoch mit einem Wirbelwind in C-Dur abschließt.
