Wo soll ich fliehen hin, BWV694


As with BWV646 above, Bach takes his cue from the word ‘flee’ in the first line of the chorale (sung on later Sundays after Trinity). The two hands ‘flee’ after each other in the manner of a two-part invention, while the pedals have the chorale melody.

Wie das oben erwähnte BWV646, faßt Bach das Wort ‘fliehen’ in der ersten Chorallinie als Stichwort auf (das Stück wurde an späteren Sonntagen nach Trinitatis gesungen). Die beiden Hände ‘fliehen’ hintereinander nach Art einer zweistimmigen Invention, während die Pedaltöne die Choralmelodie erklingen lassen.
