Vater unser im Himmelreich, BWV682

composer
1739; Clavier-Übung III, Liepzig

BWV682 is an elaborate trio, marked by limping ‘Scotch snap’ rhythms, with the chorale melody given in canon, at the top and in the middle of the texture. These Scotch snaps were employed as up-to-date stylistic features from Dresden, perhaps Bach deliberately showing off his modernity. The melodic writing in between the canon is rich in its rhythmic subtlety and thoughtful affect.
