The sacred flame

author of text

1918 saw settings of two poems by Mary Coleridge (great-granddaughter of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's brother) who died in 1907. Both The Sacred Flame and Remember extol, with more than a sliver of sentimentality, the virtues of long-lasting love, a theme to which Ireland returned on several occasions, more than hinting at the insecurities within.
