Le coucou


Louis-Claude Daquin was a harpsichordist and regarded as the finest organist of his time in France. His compositions scarcely match such a reputation, but Le Coucou, from his Book of Harpsichord Pieces of 1735, has a naive simplicity and directness which has ensured its survival.

Le claveciniste Louis-Claude Daquin était considéré, en France, comme le meilleur organiste de son temps. Ses compositions ne sont guère à la hauteur de cette réputation, mais Le Coucou, extrait de son Livre de pièces de clavecin (1735), recèle une simplicité naïve et une franchise qui lui ont valu de survivre.

Seine Kompositionen werden einem solchen Ruf kaum gerecht, doch Le Coucou aus seinem Livre de Pièces de Clavecin von 1735 hat eine naive Schlichtheit und Direktheit, die dem Stück seinen Fortbestand gesichert haben.
