(A footnote: this version of Panis Angelicus is taken from one of the innumerable arrangements published during Franck’s lifetime. Since it lists no arranger’s name the arrangement may well be by the composer himself, as he made many of them. We have slightly altered it, however, to bring it closer to the original version, in which the cello takes a more prominent role than the keyboard—very noble of my friend Mr Hough, I must admit, even if a bottle of good red wine did have to change hands in order to cement the arrangement!)

Puisque aucun nom d’arrangeur n’y est mentionné, il se pourrait bien que ce soit le compositeur lui-même qui l’ait réalisé. Nous l’avons pourtant légèrement modifié pour le rapprocher de la version originale, le violoncelle y jouant un rôle plus prépondérant que le clavier—je dois admettre que c’est très noble de la part de mon ami, M. Hough, même si une bonne bouteille de vin a dû changer de propriétaire pour sceller l’entente!)

(Ein Einschub: Die hier eingespielte Fassung von Panis Angelicus beruht auf einer der zahllosen Bearbeitungen, die zu Francks Lebzeiten veröffentlicht wurden. Da die Partitur den Namen des Bearbeiters nicht aufführt, kann es gut sein, dass Franck sie selbst geschaffen hat, da er viele eigene Bearbeitungen seiner Werke anfertigte. Wir haben sie allerdings leicht abgeändert, um sie der Originalfassung näher zu bringen, in der das Cello eine gewichtigere Rolle als das Klavier übernimmt—sehr großzügig von meinem Freund, Herrn Hough, muss ich schon sagen, auch wenn eine Flasche guten Rotweins die Hände wechseln musste, um die Vereinbarung zu besiegeln!)
