Deliciae Musicae I, May 1695
author of text

Playford’s first volume of Deliciae Musicae, advertised in May 1695, contained four new songs by Purcell, including a setting of a typically cheeky poem by the young playwright William Congreve (1670–1725). Purcell’s response to the text was splendidly lighthearted.
