Phillis, I can ne'er forgive it, Z408

The Banquet of Musick II, 1688
author of text

This mock tragedy is one of Purcell’s shortest strophic songs, published in 1688 in the second book of The Banquet of Musick. The author berates Phillis for slighting him in favour of Damon.
