The Cage

First line:
A leopard went around his cage
author of text

There is nothing conventional about The Cage (1906), inspired by watching a pacing leopard in the menagerie at Central Park. The music that resulted became ‘In the Cage’, the first movement of Ives’s Set for Theatre Orchestra; this song version was made afterwards.
