Suo gân (‘lullaby song’) was probably fashioned by Robert Bryan (1858-1920) to a melody first published at the end of the 18th century. It made a powerful contribution to Spielberg’s 1987 film Empire of the Sun, with the treble James Rainbird as soloist.
