Dous amis, oy mon complaint

composer
2vv; Ballade 6
author of text

Darker in tone both musically and textually, Dous amis, oy mon complaint (Ballade 6) tells of the distress of unrequited love. In this anguished ballade, we are presented with the physical as well as the emotional symptoms of love: the lady flushes and her strength wanes. The music reflects these pains through twisting melismas.
