Monk’s harmonies are preserved in the first four verses, including a piquant progression at ‘Thousands only live to bless thee’, which in verse 3 seems to pay tribute to ‘Craftsman’s art and music’s measure’. The tune is shared by the voices in verse 3 and 4, and in the last verse sung by the basses with a descant added.

In den ersten vier Strophen bleiben Monks Harmonien erhalten, unter anderem eine ungewöhnliche Fortschreitung bei „Thousands only live to bless thee“, was in Strophe 3 wohl „Craftsman’s art and music’s measure“ unterstreicht.
