The Lord's Prayer

First line:
Our Father, who art in heaven
composer
1999
author of text
Matthew 6: 9-13

Sir John Tavener (1944-2013) composed this setting of The Lord’s Prayer for the Tallis Scholars in 1999, following a commission from the Guildford Philharmonic. Tavener’s output is dominated by religious works. His choral pieces range from miniatures including The Lamb and this setting of The Lord’s Prayer to extended works such as Fall and Resurrection or The Veil of the Temple. In his earlier Lord’s Prayer of 1982 the English version is followed by Church Slavonic. In this second setting of The Lord’s Prayer (English only) Tavener omits the doxology.
