Hommage à John Cage

composer
1987, revised in 1991; from Signs, Games and Messages

A recurrent type among Kurtág’s instrumental inventions is the homage. ‘Hommage à John Cage—Faltering Words’ (1987, rev. 1991) has the violin trying to enunciate and failing, time and again.
