Trionfo della vita 'Phantasiestück', Op 76

composer

The music publisher Breitkopf issued a book of twelve pieces by various Berlin composers from the nineteenth century, of which Trionfo della vita (Phantasiestück), Op 76, by Franz Wagner (1870–1929) is the twelfth. Not to be confused with his more famous namesake Richard, Franz Wagner was organist in the Grünenwaldkirche in Berlin, and wrote music for piano, organ and male voice choir. Trionfo della vita is a short but dramatic piece, with its brief moment of semi-repose halfway through, and features occasional splashes of very original harmonic colour. A wonderful weave of convoluted harmony drives the final bars through to a grand and satisfying C major climax.
