Bounteous royal offspring, empress of heaven,
full of all grace, and mistress of the world,
who gave birth to the fount of all mercy,
and begat the stream of perfect grace.
Open the channel of the source, mother of piety,
that we who are sinners, immersed in wrongdoing,
may attain your favour, and at our holy prayer may you bestow
true penitence, while we are on our way.
What shall we sinners do if you deny us hope?
Alas, we die wretched so long as you remain far from us.
Your tenderness knows not how to refuse to come to the aid
of those whom humility impels to pray for it.
O infinite goodness of the Saviour’s mother,
O profound reassurance of the devout petitioner.
She is accustomed to foresee these our prayers
and to limit the grief of those who are penitent.
Jesus, watch over the servants of your holy mother
whom, freed from all stain in the sight of the Father,
you may grant to delight in the glory of that majesty,
as in the kingdom of radiance you reign for ever.
Renowned soldier of Christ,
most holy George,
you who are the glory of soldiers.
You dwell now in heaven,
where your sanctity is resplendent
amid the chorus of martyrs.
Whatever you pray for
you will be able to accomplish
by your merit.
May you watch over the realm of England,
that it may not founder wretchedly
because of our unworthiness.
May you entreat mercy
from the mother of all grace,
that she may bring us aid.
That she may protect the realm
and preserve the king
from the assaults of his enemies.
Virgin, splendour of virgins,
may you be a refuge for the king,
and protect him from his enemies.
Whatever you would desire him to do,
may he be always pleasing to you
in all his deeds.
O golden pillars, [= St George and Mary]
demand true peace
in our time.
Or grant us victory,
and after death glory
in the heavenly kingdom.
Christ, defend us from our enemies.
