Weimars Volkslied, S542ii

1873; No 2 in F major

The shorter version of Weimars Volkslied – a piece which Liszt had developed from a theme in his Huldigungsmarsch (in volume 28) – appeared in print in 1873, just one of almost countless versions for a variety of forces for which Liszt adapted the melody which he had clearly hoped would become some kind of anthem.

La version courte de Weimar Volkslied, un morceau que Liszt avait développé à partir de sa Huldigungsmarsch (volume 28), fut publiée en 1873, une version parmi tant d’autres d’une diversité d’inspirations puissantes pour lesquelles Liszt adapta la mélodie qu’il espérait ériger comme une sorte d’hymne.

Die kürzere Version von Weimars Volkslied – ein Stück, das Liszt aus dem Thema seines Huldigungsmarsches (in Ausgabe 28) entwickelt hatte – erschien 1873 gedruckt, nur eine von fast zahllosen Versionen einer Vielfalt von Kräften, denen Liszt die Melodie anpaßte, von der er eindeutig gehofft hatte, daß sie eine Art Nationalhymne werden sollte.
