Fuga in C major, BuxWV174

'jig' fugue

The Fugue in C major, BuxWV174 is Buxtehude’s ‘jig’ fugue and although for manuals only may be thought of as a precursor of the Fugue in G major, BWV577 attributed to J S Bach. Its form is not uncommon in Buxtehude’s fugues, i.e. exposition (bars 1–30), second exposition (bars 31–60) and coda.
