If only two of the masterworks recorded here were indisputably written for the violin, the others are no less the authentic voice of JSB. Sir John Eliot Gardiner recalls the sense of shared, palpable delight in the music-making at the recording sessions: it’s a delight which readily communicates to the listener in these wonderful accounts.
