Petrushka is a product of Stravinsky’s triumpant collaboration with Diaghilev that also produced The Firebird and The Rite of Spring. Presented here in its original 1911 version, it is accompanied by the later Jeu de cartes, a ‘ballet in three deals’ stemming from Stravinsky’s life-long enthusiasm for poker.
