Beethoven: Christ on the Mount of Olives

Christ Pavol Breslik tenor
Seraph Elsa Dreisig soprano
Peter David Soar bass
Chorus of Angels/Soldiers/Disciples London Symphony Chorus

Composed in 1803, Christ on the Mount of Olives already displays the emotive force of the later Missa solemnis. Orchestra, chorus and soloists tell the story of Jesus’ prayer and arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane in an oratorio reflecting the emotional pressure Beethoven was under at the time.
