Sibelius: Symphonies Nos 5 & 7

Sibelius’ fifth symphony is an established orchestral masterpiece: fully displaying the composer’s skill, its evocative and dramatic writing fully utilizes the orchestral palette. The seventh Symphony remains radical in its seamless, one-movement structure, and is considered by many to be his finest symphonic achievement. The symphonies are coupled with En Saga, Sibelius’s first important score to reveal a distinctively Finnish character.
