Naïve in its simplicity, Saint-Saëns’ charming little trio Une flûte invisible (1885) sets words by Victor Hugo. We hear with a lover’s ear the sounds of shepherds and birds as peaceful and joyous music, but of course it is the song of love he finds the most beguiling.
