Reviews

‘A treasury of good performances. It could hardly be otherwise with this composer and this roster of singers’ (Fanfare, USA)
This is an early work, published in John Playford’s second book of Choice Ayres and Songs in 1679. The poet decides that ‘cringing and whining’ are unsuitable actions for a lover: all he wants is his lady, who is not reciprocating his advances, to commit herself to him, and he will ‘for ever be true’ to her.
