The Thalia Ensemble has gradually established a pre-eminence in the field of Classical and early Romantic chamber music. The group has performed extensively in the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Germany, Poland and Portugal, both at the leading early-music festivals and in more intimate venues, including several historic locations. It was named ‘Selected Promising Ensemble’ in the International Young Artists Presentation at the 2012 AMUZ in Antwerp, and won first prize in the 2013 York Early Music International Young Artists’ Competition at the NCEM.
All the ensemble’s musicians are experts on historical performance practice. At ease on several members of their instruments’ families, some also play the modern counterparts of their instruments as well as, for instance, the recorder, cornett, even cello. Their music making is always informed by the most up-to-date research into historical interpretation, and seeks to explore thoroughly the rich timbres of the different instrumental combinations of each programme.
