February 2015 Releases

Hyperion's worthy Record of the Month for February 2015 sees Angela Hewitt fulfilling a long-held ambition to record the Liszt Piano Sonata. The Dante Sonata and Petrarch Sonnets complete this most distinguished recital. Garrick Ohlsson marks a composer centenary with the Complete Scriabin Poèmes, thirty-four miniature marvels presenting pianist and listener alike with a key into the composer's revolutionary inner world. Trinity College Choir Cambridge and Stephen Layton have recorded a moving and varied programme of Ešenvalds Choral Music: stunning performances of glorious music. The Orlando Consort have returned to the studio for a second volume of Machaut Songs.

Henry Vieuxtemps may be best known for his show-stopping violin pyrotechnics, but he also wrote highly successful works for cello and orchestra. Alban Gerhardt here delights in the two Vieuxtemps Cello Concertos, Josep Caballé-Domenech conducting a spirited Royal Flemish Philharmonic.

Three new recordings from Signum Classics this month. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment gives rare performances of five Symphonies by CPE Bach under the direction of Rebecca Miller. The Bach St Matthew Passion has been sensitively recorded by the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists; Peter Seymour directs and the soloists include Charles Daniels and Peter Harvey.
