March 2014 Releases

Hyperion's Record of the Month for March 2014 is wonderful: the opulent Tallis Missa Puer natus est nobis is performed by experts in the genre Andrew Carwood and The Cardinall's Musick. A very different Master of the Queen's Music finds voice in The Complete Williamson Piano Concertos, these spirited works being ebulliently realized by Piers Lane, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Howard Shelley. Alban Gerhardt aims his bow at the three Cello Concertos by Hans Pfitzner, conductor Sebastian Weigle and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin lending support in this worthy revival.

The Leonore Piano Trio—Benjamin Nabarro, Gemma Rosefield and Tim Horton—makes its Hyperion debut this month with the two Arensky Piano Trios. Wonderfully lugubrious also is a new Schubert Winterreise, Gerald Finley and Julius Drake sharing every freezing step of the perennial winter traveller.
