Martyn Brabbins and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales have recorded the two complete Zemlinsky Symphonies: audacious works from a headstrong youth wrestling the gulf between Brahms and the next generation, perhaps; thrilling to hear, most certainly. Dating from the succeeding couple of decades, the Szymanowski Masques, Métopes & Études are here recorded by acclaimed pianist Cédric Tiberghien, and the Kodály String Quartets receive driven performances from the Dante Quartet.
Re-issued this month are The Gaudier Ensemble's Dvořák Piano Quintet & String Quintet and an opulent album of Howells Choral Music from Wells Cathedral Choir.
1equalmusic invites us into the wonderful world of Adrian Jack's Works for 2 pianos in thumping performances by Thorson & Thurber, some recorded live, and one with percussion.
