July 2013 Releases
|
Hyperion's Record of the Month for July 2013 is a glorious second instalment of Handel Chandos Anthems from Trinity College Choir Cambridge; Stephen Layton conducts the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and soloists Susan Gritton, Iestyn Davies and Thomas Hobbs. Subtitled 'Spiritual Songs from the Baltic States', Kreek's Notebook is a fascinating quasi folk collection by Tõnu Kõrvits. Sumptuously recorded by Royal Holloway Choir and the Britten Sinfonia under Rupert Gough, the programme also includes new choral works by Arturs Maskats and Peteris Plakidis. The sixtieth volume in our relentless Romantic Piano Concerto series is also Cédric Tiberghien's first—he has chosen three works by compatriot Théodore Dubois. Andrew Manze conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Re-issued this month are Hear my prayer, that wonderful showcase for the treble of Jeremy Budd and St Paul's Cathedral Choir, and the opulent Stanford Piano Quintet from the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet and Piers Lane. |
