April 2012 Releases
|
Luminous new performances of the Howells Requiem & other works comprise Hyperion's Record of the Month for April 2012: Stephen Layton directs the vibrant Trinity College Choir Cambridge. Matthew Owens and Wells Cathedral Choir tackle a programme entirely of first recordings centred on the Bob Chilcott Requiem, so revealing a valuable source of new choral repertoire. Danny Driver joins the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and rising star Rory Macdonald for Piano Concertos by Erik Chisholm (including a first recording of the 'Hindustani'), while The Nash Ensemble explores the fascinating world of Chamber Music by Joaquín Turina. A second volume of Debussy Songs continues our survey of this minor master of the genre; Malcolm Martineau is this time joined by sopranos Lorna Anderson and Lisa Milne. This month's budget re-issues are headed by The King's Consort's glorious Venetian extravaganza Lo Sposalizio. We're also offering Janácek Choral Music from the New London Chamber Choir, the sublime Byrd Mass for five voices from Winchester Cathedral Choir, and the entrancing flute and piano survey L'Album des Six from Emily Beynon and Andrew West. |
