Although Beethoven revised this brief song later the same year – changing the predominant rhythmic movement in the accompaniment from duplets to triplets – the unvarnished simplicity of this, the earlier setting, is arguably the more effective.

Bien que révisé l’année même de sa composition – Beethoven changea le mouvement rythmique prédominant de l’accompagnement (duolets) en triolets –, ce bref lied, à la simplicité sans fard, est, d’une certaine manière, le plus efficace.

Zwar hat Beethoven dieses kurze Lied noch im selben Jahr überarbeitet – und die vorherrschende rhythmische Bewegung in der Begleitung von Duolen in Triolen umgewandelt –, doch ließe sich mit einigem Recht behaupten, daß die ungeschminkte Schlichtheit dieser früheren Vertonung wirkungsvoller ist.
