Hough’s
Étude de Concert is, again in his own words, ‘a pastiche of the Slavic piano étude. In ABA form its A sections, made up of three themes, are reduced to half tempo to form the B section. During the reprise of section A all three themes are combined briefly before a coda transforms the main theme into a whirlwind tarantella’.
