In manus tuas I
Sheppard composed three short settings of this text, all for use in the evening service of Compline in the days leading up to Holy Week. This one, scored for four men’s voices, is the longest and probably the oldest. As usual in settings of this text, only some of the words are given polyphony; the rest are sung to plainchant.
