Vision 'Étude', RO295 Op posth.
EnglishFrançaisDeutsch
The three productive months spent in San Isidro during the early part of 1869 saw Gottschalk reverting to his earlier European style (see Impromptu and Caprice élégiaque). The outstanding surviving works from this period are the Grand Scherzo (recorded on CD 2), Tremolo (CD 5), Hercule (CD 3) and this, one of the composer’s most lovely effusions. Its constant flow of right-hand semiquavers (pp and murmurando), subtle harmonies and long-breathed melody put one in mind of Fauré. Only recently rediscovered, Vision makes one look with renewed admiration at the diversity of Gottschalk’s multi-faceted output.
