Caprice-polka, RO44 Op 79
EnglishFrançaisDeutsch
Published posthumously in an edition by Gottschalk’s pianist friend Nicolás Ruíz Espadero, three catchy tunes follow breathlessly on the heels of one another—the first in A flat (a favourite key of Gottschalk), the next in its relative minor, the third in D flat—before a return to the opening theme. The composer’s attention is then taken by a fourth subject (again in A flat, but not in the strict rhythm of the polka) which propels this rarely recorded gem to a conclusion.
