composer
1859; published in Havana in 1860; alternative title: Recuerdos de la Habana

A languorous habanera in melancholic E flat minor threatens to burst into ‘Hearts and Flowers’. This is replaced by a simple melody in the same tempo in the major and repeated with, perhaps, one too many variations. Whether or not this is intended to be a reflection on the charms of Mademoiselle Maria Luisa del pio Noguerida y de Sedano (de la Havane), to whom the piece is dedicated, is a moot point.
