Valse tendre, Op 119

A genre at which Chaminade excelled was the waltz. The Op 119 Valse tendre, published in 1906, is a example of one of her flamboyant concert waltzes, the tenderness of its title less evident in the swirling ballroom of the F major outer sections as in the B flat trio (though even here a brief D minor interruption hints, perhaps, at the rebuff of an importunate rival).

Un genre dans lequel Chaminade était de première force était la valse. La Valse tendre, op. 119, publiée en 1906, est un exemple de ses flamboyantes valses de concert; la tendresse de son titre est moins en évidence dans les tourbillons de la salle de bal des première et dernière sections en fa majeur que dans le trio en si bémol (bien que même là une brève interruption en ré mineur suggère, peut-être, la rebuffade d’un rival importun).

Ein Genre, in dem sich die Komponistin auszeichnete, war das des Walzers. Der 1906 erschienene Valse tendre op. 119 ist ein Beispiel für ihre extravaganten Konzertwalzer, wobei die Sanftheit des Titels im rauschenden Ballsaal der Eckabschnitte in F-Dur weniger deutlich zutage tritt als im Trio in B-Dur (obwohl selbst dort eine kurze Unterbrechung in d-Moll möglicherweise die schroffe Abfuhr an einen lästigen Rivalen andeutet).
