All through his life Debussy nodded at times in the direction of popular song and Pierrot is an early example, with its quotation of the folk song ‘Au clair de la lune’. This is one of his joky pieces, culminating in frivolous trills.

Zeit seines Lebens verwies Debussy mitunter in die Richtung des Volkslieds; Pierrot ist ein frühes Beispiel dafür, da hier das Lied „Au clair de la lune“ zitiert wird. Auch dieses ist eines seiner scherzhaften Lieder, das in frivolen Trillern gipfelt.
