Similarly, in the Chorale Prelude on ‘Lobt Gott, ihr Christen allzugleich’, BuxWV202, Buxtehude again sets a Christmas melody later worked by J S Bach (Das Orgelbüchlein
, BWV609), and the treatment is appropriately rhythmical and joyful. Each of the four lines of the melody is introduced by a short imitative passage based upon its material. Unusually, there are two-voice chords for the pedals near the end; they immediately precede the typical Buxtehudian flourish given to the right hand in the final bars.
