Sonata in D minor, Op 4 No 1
EnglishFrançaisDeutsch
Sonata 1 contains some quintessentially Albinonian musical ideas that were to appear in later works. Versions of the first, second and fourth movements appear in the opening sonata of a second ‘unofficial’ set of violin sonatas published in 1717, while the second movement prefigures its counterpart in Op 6 No 4. This sonata is typical of Albinoni in that the slow movements are in a through-composed form that eschews any kind of reprise of the opening, while the quick movements employ an almost perfectly symmetrical binary form.
